The South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) was established in 2002. SAEON is a research platform funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). SAEON serves as a national platform for detecting, translating and predicting environmental change through scientifically designed observation systems and research.
Our network consists of 37 sites, 260 stations, 738 instruments, 1,383 sensors, 44 phenomena, 27 offerings, 28 units of measure, 120 variables, 1,410 datasets and 64,236,453 verified observations.
